This is one of the most spectacular trails I’ve done I got lucky with the permit the day before and hit it the same day but try to get it a few days in advance, getting up there is considered strenuous
Hiked this beauty on 12/26/23.
It was an amazing hike with a view worth every step climbed.
Won the day before lottery and got to do this iconic hike! Absolutely thrilling trail. Went during the winters. Weather was nice and chilly. Started out around 6am and there were barely any cars at the trailhead. Initial climb to the scouts lookout isn’t too bad. Nice big switchbacks until you reach Walter’s Wiggles (21 small switchbacks). These will definitely kill your legs. After which you reach the lookout where the actual ascent begins to the Angels Landing summit.
Luckily there weren’t a lot of people when I hiked. There are chains almost all the way to the top. A few sections don’t have chains in between. Make sure to be extra careful in those portions. Take it slow and don’t rush. It’s exhilarating but so worth it once you’re standing at the top looking down into the canyon and stunning views on all sides
Not a fan of the day before lotteries... paid and lost 5 days in a row and was only able to make the trip for a half day from Vegas.
If you miss out on the lotteries I think you should be giving preference also I think Veterans should get priority in national park lotteries as they actually have put efforts in to the country....
Angels Landing!! A beautiful place you must visit for couple of times in a lifetime!! …
Wonderful and beautiful but scary. I always kept one hand on the rail and two feet on the ground, or two hands on the rail and one foot on the ground, at all times. I’m scared of heights and have back issues but managed to do it with a few deep breaths, a few tears shed, some Tylenol, and ibuprofen.
The best hike at Zion, but not easy. It is steep with relatively few flat stretches. I was able to get up and down in about 2.5 hours. …
Left the lodge at 5:43am, empty oarking at trailhead, super cool to stroll theough refrigerator canyon @6:30am with headlamps! Arrived at the chains right at sunrise. Completed in under 3.5 hours. At the top for about 20 minutes just us and a solo hiker that passed us on the chains. Amazing experience!
